These are my thoughts on Barricades

While reading with some of my kids today, we came across the word 'barricades.' I asked if anyone knew what that meant and one of my students literally leaped from his seat with his hand in the air. I couldn't ignore such unusual enthusiasm, so I called on him. And even more surprising than his sudden interest in vocabulary was his response:

"Well, if there is a zombie apocalypse and you don't want any of the zombies to get into your house you have to nail a bunch of boards to all the doors and windows and then find anything heavy in your house and put those things by the door. Like pianos or chairs and stuff. Then the zombies can't get through."

Well done, little guy. That is exactly what a barricade is.
